How DNA can Store Entire world's Digital Information


The resolution is within our reach and to be more precise within ourselves only.



Growing Rate of DATA

The way we are creating more and more data everyday in terms of pictures, songs, videos, informational and whatnot, the memory cards and hard disc drives will soon become insufficient for data storage. This has given a chance to the scientists and information analyst's to tickle their brains to a little more extent. Now experiments are being conducted almost every day, even though we are not able to gain control of the growing amount of data. It’s going to cause a Digital Information overload to our systems very soon if we do not think over it and find a way out to preserve this huge amount of Digital data. Even data that is stored in Cloud need some physical space to be preserved and extracted whenever we need.

Imagine 2 billon people keeping 1GB data each every year in a Cloud storage Service. Can you imagine the amount of data in 1 year to that Storage Server?

Have you ever thought about the data that are stored in our genes which we are caring within ourselves from years to decades, from centuries to generations? All these information are the ones that decides how should we look, our body and feature. How you are and what we are likely to do in our lives depend totally on our DNA.


DNA Storage Technology

Yaniv Erlich and Dina Dealiski are the two young scientists of the Columbia University and the New York genome centre have found the process of keeping digital data within the DNA. They were successful to transfer and store a computer operating system, a virus program, one 8 mm full movie and many more data in just one gram of DNA. They also confirmed that a total of 215 petabyte of data was transferred and stored in just 1 gram DNA.

DNA DATA STORAGE CAPACITY

1 gm DNA = 215 petabyte
215 petabyte = 215 million GB


Now, this process of storing information in DNA has been tried and tested earlier at different geographical locations over the world, but difference is that when they extracted the data back from DNA, entire data stored wasn't retrievable. Some parts of the data that was stored became corrupt.

Yaniv stated that they have copied the data 9 times and entire data was retrievable every single time. But, this is still a very costly way of data storage. Data transfer to DNA system will cost approx $7000 and to retrieve data back from the system is going to cost $2,000. But, according to the scientist and researchers DNA storage system is the most natural and best way to preserve information over thousands of years.

What my ordinary brain says is that what you get back from your storage after several years is way more important than how much you can Store. After all what you get back is all you can use. Scientists and researchers are still working very hard to get this model into perfection.

REDMI 4A Review

REDMI 4A - Best android phone by Xiaomi under Rs.6000

Xiaomi has launched another budget Android device in India and it’s called the Redmi 4A.This is another Made in India product of Mi. This is a 4G VOLTE supported device. So is it going to be the most successful device under 6K? Let’s check out.

Look n Feel of the Redmi 4A

The outer cover of the phone is built by polycarbonate material due to which it ends up with a metallic look and experience although being light weight. The phone weighs 131 grams which is really light in terms of a Smartphone. This device is going to be available with 3 color variants which are Dark Grey, Gold and Rose Gold.


Display of Redmi 4A  

In this phone you will get a 5” -720P IPS HD display which is similar to the Redmi 3S Display. But, there is no information as such on the screen protection used in this device. This phone also has a Adreno 308 GPU and runs MIUI 8 with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1

CPU

The phone is powered by a QUALCOMM Snapdragon 425 chipset which is a 1.4Ghz Quardcore CPU based on Cortex A53 architecture and also supports the latest 28mn technology.

STORAGE

This device comes with a 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage out of which you will get 8.49GB approx. free on first boot. Memory can also be extended with additional micro sd card but if you do so, you will have to sacrifice the second SIM, as this device uses a hybrid SIM Slot for Dual SIM and memory expansion.

CAMERA & BATTERY of The Redmi 4A

This phone uses a 13MP rear shooter with a F2.2 aperture and single Led Flash. The front shooter is a 5MP cam. This device is having a battery of 3120 MAH but as expected fast charging is not supported by this device. Therefore it should take 2-2.5 hours to fully charge this phone.

Discussion and my impressions

In this price range the phone is providing all the basic sensors that are expected in any android Smartphone. The Autobrightness Sensor and the Double Tap to wake features are impressive. IT also supports Second Space by which one can use multiple Whatsapp and Facebook profile in one single device.

Still I feel this phone is set at a little higher price than it should have been. In China this device is sold at 499yen which is approximately INR 5000. But still, this device is no-doubt a very good device at INR5999/-.My frank opinion will be to put in another RS.1000/- more and go for the Redmi 3S, but this totally depends on the budget of the buyer. In the Redmi 3S you not only get a powerful processor which is the Q Snapdragon 430 also along with a more powerful GPU.

Talking about the Redmi 4A again, this is a good device for normal day to day usage. In normal conditions and usage it should not face any lags but this is not built for heavy gaming because one might face frame drops while playing heavy games.

Overall it looks to be a good package at this price point although being a bit high. A 32GB of internal Storage would have been great for any user with similar specs. All in all, a good budget phone from Xiaomi which is expected to do good business once again for the company.
